Carrigaline

Cork commuter town on the Owenboy estuary, useful for Crosshaven and Cork Harbour beaches.

Carrigaline is a growing commuter town about 15 km south of Cork city, sitting on the Owenboy River estuary. It is not a major tourist destination in its own right, but it is a convenient base for reaching the coast at Crosshaven and the beaches around Cork Harbour.

The town has a handful of pubs and restaurants, and the Carrigaline Court Hotel serves as the main social hub. The river walk along the Owenabue is pleasant, and the surrounding area offers good cycling along quiet country roads toward Crosshaven and Roberts Cove. St Mary's Church on the east side of town is a fine Victorian Gothic building with an old graveyard worth a short look.

Getting There

Carrigaline is about 15 kilometres south of Cork city centre, connected by the R610 road. By car, allow 20–30 minutes from the city depending on traffic — the road can be congested during commuting hours.

Bus Éireann runs regular services between Cork Bus Station and Carrigaline; the journey takes around 30 minutes. From Carrigaline, local buses serve Crosshaven and other surrounding villages.

Cork Airport is roughly 10 kilometres northwest of Carrigaline, making it a practical base for travellers flying into Cork who want to avoid city-centre accommodation prices.
