Allihies Copper Mine Museum sits in an old Methodist church in Allihies, west of Castletownbere. It explains the copper industry that shaped this end of Beara from the early nineteenth century, when Cornish-style engine houses and deep shafts turned a remote Atlantic village into a hard industrial landscape.
The museum is small but useful before walking the mine trails above the village. The ruined engine houses on the hillside make more sense once you know what was hauled from the rock and how much labour it took.
