Whitegate is a small Clare-side village a few kilometres south of Mountshannon on the R352. It is the quietest of the lakeshore settlements and largely untouched by tourism, which is precisely its appeal. The surrounding countryside is good cycling territory, and there are lake views from the minor roads that run down to the water between the village and Mountshannon.
The village has a pub and a community feel that makes it worth a brief stop on a circuit of the Clare shore.
