West Cork Model Railway Village

Detailed model village and railway recreating West Cork's towns in the 1940s.

The West Cork Model Railway Village sounds like a small family diversion, but it is more interesting than that. The models recreate West Cork towns and railway life in the 1940s, when the narrow-gauge lines still tied places like Clonakilty, Kinsale, Bandon, and Skibbereen together.

It works well because the railway has vanished from the real landscape. Seeing the old network in miniature gives the towns around Clonakilty a geography that roads alone do not explain.
