Finnegan's of Dalkey

Old village pub on Sorrento Road, long a favourite of the celebrity locals

A traditional Dalkey pub, all dark wood, hand-pulled pints of Guinness, and a roaring fire in winter. Finnegan's has been on Sorrento Road for the best part of a century and has a long roster of well-known regulars — Bono and Maeve Binchy among them — but it remains an unfussy place where you can drop in for a pint and a bowl of seafood chowder without anyone caring who you are.

The food is straightforward Irish pub fare done well: chowder with brown bread, fish and chips, a Sunday roast. The garden out the back is one of the best beer gardens in the village in summer.
