Just north of the village, Bullock Harbour is a tiny working port that has been busy since the twelfth century, when the Cistercian monks of St Mary's Abbey in Dublin held fishing rights here and built the squat tower of Bullock Castle on the cliff above. The castle is now part of a nursing home; the harbour still has a fleet of small fishing boats, stacks of lobster pots, and a slipway used by sea kayakers and divers.
The walk from Bullock to Coliemore along the coast road takes about fifteen minutes and is one of the prettiest stretches of the south Dublin shoreline. Stop at the seal-watching platform near the harbour mouth where grey seals often surface within a few metres of the wall.
