The Vico Road clings to the cliffs between Dalkey and Killiney, with the sea on one side and a string of large houses set into the hill above. The view south across Killiney Bay — golden beach, soft mountains, the long sweep of water — has been compared to the Bay of Naples since Victorian times, and the names of the roads here (Vico, Sorrento, Capri) lean into the conceit.
A small set of stone steps drops from the road to a private-but-tolerated swimming spot called the White Rock, used by locals year-round. The walk from Dalkey village to Killiney Hill car park along the Vico takes about thirty minutes one way and is best done in late afternoon when the light is on the bay.
