Caherconnell Stone Fort

Caherconnell Stone Fort is a sturdy limestone ring fort in the Burren, occupied roughly from the 10th to the 13th century. It looks older at first glance, which is part of the appeal: low walls, open sky, and the strange grey pavement of the Burren all around it.

The site has a small visitor centre and is easy to combine with a wider Burren drive from Doolin. It is a good stop if you want archaeology without the crowds that gather at the region's best-known viewpoints.
