St Columb's House is a compact stone-roofed oratory beside the old monastic site. It probably dates from the 10th century, when Kells was still one of Ireland's important religious centres.
The building is plain and powerful in the way early Irish church architecture often is. Access can be limited, but even from outside it adds a close, human-scale counterpoint to the round tower and crosses nearby.
