The Sheen river drops over a long staircase of rock just before it reaches Kenmare Bay, and the falls have been a beauty spot since Victorian times. The water is brown with peat, the rocks are slick with moss, and after rain the noise is impressive. A path along the bank from the bridge gives good views without going onto private hotel land.
The falls sit on the grounds of Sheen Falls Lodge, the luxury hotel that grew up around them, but the public footpath has been preserved. Walk in from the road bridge on the N71, just east of the town. Half an hour will see you to the best viewpoint and back.
