One of the largest stone circles in southwest Ireland, right at the edge of town. Fifteen stones arranged in a circle 17 metres across, with a boulder dolmen at the centre -- likely a burial site for someone of importance over 3,000 years ago.
The circle is known locally as the "Druid's Circle" and sits just beyond the end of Market Street. No entrance fee. Like many stone circles in this part of Ireland, it is precisely oriented in relation to the sun, possibly serving as a primitive calendar for agricultural purposes.
