Kilrush Marina is the largest inland marina in Ireland, with berths for around 120 boats and a sheltered inner harbour that feels surprisingly lively for such a quiet town. The marina development transformed what had been a rundown quayside in the 1990s and gave Kilrush a waterfront worth spending time on. The boats moored here are a mix of ocean-going yachts pausing en route between the UK and the Mediterranean, coastal sailing boats, and the ferry to Scattery Island.
The walkway along the marina gives good views across the estuary to the Kerry mountains on the far shore. In summer the marina has a cafe and small chandlery; the ferry to Scattery Island departs from the eastern end. The whole area comes to life during the annual Kilrush Regatta, which draws sailors from across the west of Ireland.
