North Abbey is the ruined Dominican friary on the north side of Youghal's main graveyard. Founded in the thirteenth century, it belongs to the same medieval port-town story as Youghal's walls, collegiate church, and old merchant streets.
The remains are fragmentary, but they repay a short detour if you are walking the historic town. Heritage Ireland notes its connection with the Desmonds and the later destruction of the friary, giving the quiet stones a sharper edge than first appears.
