Tynte's Castle is a late medieval tower house standing directly in Youghal's historic core. Its position on the street is part of the appeal: instead of sitting apart as a romantic ruin, it shows how fortified merchant houses once formed part of the everyday fabric of a wealthy port town.
The castle is best seen while walking between St Mary's Collegiate Church, the town walls, and the waterfront. Even if access is limited, the exterior gives Youghal another strong piece of medieval texture and helps explain why the town feels older and more layered than many Irish seaside stops.
