Chieti is split between an upper old town on the ridge and a lower scalo around the railway station and motorway. Most visitors arrive by train or car; the airport at Pescara is a short hop away.
By train: Chieti railway station, in the lower town, is on the Rome–Pescara line. Trains from Rome take around three to four hours; from Pescara, just fifteen minutes. A local bus or taxi shuttles up to the old town. Chieti–Madonna delle Piane is a smaller station on the same line.
By car: the A14 (Adriatic) and A25 (Rome–Pescara) motorways meet just east of the city. Parking is easier in the lower town; for the old centre, leave the car at one of the marked lots and walk up.
By air: Pescara's Abruzzo International Airport, fifteen kilometres east, has flights to several European cities. From Pescara, frequent trains and buses reach Chieti in under half an hour.
