The medieval village itself is the reason to come. Narrow stone lanes wind between pale façades that have barely changed in centuries, passing under arched passageways, squeezing between old tower houses, and opening suddenly onto small piazzas. The Aragonese tower (Torre dei Medici) is the landmark -- a sturdy cylinder rising above the rooftops, restored as part of the albergo diffuso project. The whole village is best explored slowly and on foot, in the soft light of morning or late afternoon, when the stone takes on a warm glow and the few permanent residents are about.
