A rock-cut church that seems to grow straight out of the cliff face of the Sasso Caveoso. From below, the small bell tower and the carved doorway are visible; the body of the church is entirely inside the rock. Inside, the walls and ceiling carry medieval frescoes in varying states of preservation — reddish ochres and blues faded by centuries of candlelight and damp.
The church connects underground to the larger cave complex of San Giovanni in Monterrone, which extends deeper into the same tufa formation. Opening hours are irregular; the priest from the nearby active parish sometimes unlocks it for visitors on weekday mornings.
