Basilica dell'Immacolata stands on Corso Mazzini in Catanzaro's upper historic centre, close enough to the main walk that it is easy to fold into a wander through the old city. The church has the broad, formal presence of a local devotional landmark rather than the showmanship of Calabria's bigger pilgrimage sites.
Step inside for the scale of the nave and the frescoes, then come back out to the ridge-top streets around it. Catanzaro is a city of sudden views and steep changes in level, and this basilica works best as one stop in that urban climb rather than as a single destination.
