Soveria Mannelli is particularly well-placed for the Sila National Park, one of Calabria's great natural areas. The highland plateau, with its ancient Laricio pines and glacier-carved lakes, is about 30 minutes east by car — long enough to feel like a different world from the valley below. In winter the Sila gets genuine snow; in summer it is a cool escape from the coast.
Further afield, the Calabrian coast is an hour's drive west or south. Tropea, with its famous beaches and cliff-top old town, is about 75 km southwest and can be done as a long day trip in summer.
