Citara is the longest beach in Forio and one of the most popular on the island, a broad sweep of sand facing west with clear water and a long afternoon of sun. The Poseidon Thermal Gardens occupy the northern end, with a series of seawater and thermal pools at different temperatures, sun terraces, and restaurants — entry costs around €30 in high season. The beach itself has a mix of private lidos and free public sections; the free sections are at the southern end, towards Punta Imperatore.
The water at Citara is among the clearest on the island — shallow for a good stretch, which makes it popular with families. In July and August the beach is busy and finding space on the free sections requires arriving early. From April to June and in September it is excellent: warm, uncrowded, and with the Poseidon gardens operating at reduced capacity and prices. The walk south along the shore to Punta Imperatore takes about 40 minutes and passes some striking cliff scenery.
