Chiaia

The most elegant district in Naples, running along the western waterfront from Castel dell'Ovo to the Mergellina marina. Chiaia is where well-heeled Neapolitans shop, eat, and go out in the evenings. Via Chiaia and the streets around Piazza dei Martiri are lined with designer boutiques, respected restaurants, and old-school cafes.

The neighbourhood has a different atmosphere from the chaotic Centro Storico — wider pavements, more greenery, and a generally quieter pace. Villa Comunale, Naples's long waterfront park, runs through Chiaia and is a good place to walk in the evenings. The area around Via Bisignano and Piazza Amedeo has a concentration of bars that fill up after 9pm.
