The Mercato di Mezzo is a covered, two-floor food hall in the middle of the Quadrilatero. Originally a working market — fishmongers, butchers, bakers — it was restored and reopened in 2014 as a hybrid market and food court, with counters serving Bolognese classics: tigelle, fried gnocco, mortadella platters, fritto misto, fresh pasta, wine by the glass.
The format is grab-a-tray-and-find-a-stool rather than table service. Touristy at peak times, but the quality is honest and the location at the absolute centre of the city is unbeatable for a quick lunch. Open continuously through the day.
