Misano World Circuit

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli — renamed in 2012 for the Italian rider who died at the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2011 — is a permanent racing facility that hosts rounds of MotoGP, Superbike, and various other national and international series throughout the year. The circuit runs to 4.226 km and has undergone extensive upgrades since its return to international competition.

For motorsport visitors outside race weekends, the circuit offers track days for motorcycles and cars, as well as guided tours of the facility. The MotoGP round at Misano is held in September and draws enormous crowds from across Italy and Europe — Valentino Rossi's local fanbase makes this one of the most atmospheric rounds on the calendar, with yellow-and-blue flags everywhere and noise levels that reflect the passion of Italian motorcycle racing culture. Book well in advance if attending a race.

A story
The circuit at Misano has had a peculiar history with the MotoGP calendar. It hosted its first Grand Prix in 1972, then disappeared from the schedule for decades due to safety concerns. It returned in 2007 as the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix, and its revival coincided with a period when Valentino Rossi — who grew up nearby — was the dominant force in the sport. Rossi's local popularity turned the Misano round into one of the most passionate crowd events on the entire MotoGP calendar.
