Galleria Nazionale di Parma

The Galleria Nazionale, on the upper floors of the Palazzo della Pilotta, is the principal collection of paintings in Emilia outside Bologna. Its strongest holdings are the local Parmesan masters of the 16th century — Correggio and Parmigianino above all — but it also includes works by Fra Angelico, Cima da Conegliano, Tiepolo, Canaletto, and El Greco. The Leonardo da Vinci pencil drawing known as La Scapigliata ("Head of a Woman") is the single most-reproduced piece.

The galleries open onto the great wooden bulk of the Teatro Farnese, which is part of the same ticketed visit. Allow two to three hours minimum.
