The Comino Valley stretches below Broccostella, a broad agricultural valley between limestone ridges at the border of Lazio and Campania. It is a genuinely beautiful piece of central Italian countryside — patchworks of fields, old farmhouses, lines of poplars along the watercourses — of the kind that has been painted and drawn since the Grand Tour era.
The valley is easy to explore by car and makes a pleasant drive between Sora to the northwest and Cassino to the south. Walking trails connect the ridge villages including Broccostella, offering views down into the valley that cannot be had from the road. The terrain is rocky limestone, typical of the Apennine foothills, with scrub oak and Mediterranean macchia on the slopes above the cultivated valley floor.
