Ladispoli's beach is unusual for Lazio: the sand is dark grey, almost black, a result of volcanic deposits from the Monti Sabatini. The colour makes the beach less immediately picturesque than the white-sand beaches to the south, but the sand retains heat well, and the sea here is generally clean and calm. Beach clubs (stabilimenti) line much of the shore, offering sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, and bars.
The lungomare (seafront promenade) runs the length of the beach and is pleasant for an evening walk. The best free beach section is at the northern end, near Torre Flavia.
