The Tomb of the Leopards is one of the most celebrated of Tarquinia's painted tombs, and with good reason: the main chamber preserves a complete cycle of Etruscan banqueting frescoes in almost perfect condition. The painting style is confident and expressive, showing banqueters, musicians, and dancers against a background of stylised trees, all observed through glass panels set into the tomb entrance.
Like all the accessible tombs in the Monterozzi Necropolis, visits are brief — the chambers are small and the viewing is through glass — but the quality of the painting makes a strong impression. The tomb is usually included in the rotation of open tombs and is one of the highlights of the necropolis visit.
