Ristorante Sibilla has been in continuous operation since 1730, occupying the garden directly beneath the Temple of Vesta. The view from the terrace — straight across to the round temple and down into the Aniene gorge — is one of the most theatrical settings of any restaurant in Italy. Goethe ate here; so did countless Grand Tour artists.
The cooking is traditional Lazio — homemade pasta, roast lamb, fritto misto of artichokes — competently done if not earth-shaking. You are paying primarily for the setting, but the food has more than coasted in recent years. Reserve a table on the terrace.
