Palazzo Cazzulini (Villa Bezzo)

At the southern end of Arnasco, the Palazzo Cazzulini forms part of what is now known as Villa Bezzo. The structure dates in its origins to the 13th or 14th century, when the Cazulini family of Albenga held their half of the feudal rights over the commune, though it has been altered and added to over subsequent centuries in ways typical of Ligurian rural palazzi.

The building is private and not open to visitors, but the exterior is visible from the road and gives a clear sense of how the village's medieval power was concentrated in a single fortified compound below the valley side. It makes a useful bookend when walking the village: castle ruins above in Chiesa, palace facade below in Bezzo.

A story
The Cazulini family divided the Arnasco territory with the Del Carretto branch of Balestrino as far back as 1236 — a land deal that gives this fortified palace its full historical depth. While the Del Carretto left only ruins on the hillside above, the Cazulini seat survived and was later absorbed into Villa Bezzo, now a private property that still defines the skyline of the lower village.
