Santuario della Madonna del Buon Consiglio

Perched above Borgio on the slope that connects the coastal town to the hilltop hamlets, the Santuario della Madonna del Buon Consiglio is a 12th-century Romanesque shrine that retains fragments of medieval frescoes inside its walls. The Gothic bell tower is the most visible landmark in the lower part of the municipality and a useful orientation point when walking between the coast and Verezzi.

The interior is modest but atmospheric, its stone walls absorbing centuries of incense and candlelight. The frescoes that survive are fragmentary but the quality of the remaining faces and drapery is evident. The path from the sanctuary continues uphill through olive groves and eventually reaches the hamlets of Verezzi — it is one of the more rewarding short walks in this part of Liguria.
