Laigueglia Beach

A kilometre of fine sand, the heart of Laigueglia's summer

Laigueglia's beach is the reason most people come. A long, gently curving stretch of fine sand runs the length of the village, sheltered by the headlands of Capo Mele to the south and Capo di Santa Croce towards Alassio in the north. The water is shallow well out — you can wade fifty metres before it reaches your shoulders — and the wind is generally moderate, which makes it good for families and beginning sailors but poor for proper waves.

Roughly half the beach is given over to paid bathing establishments (the stabilimenti), which line up rows of identical umbrellas in colour-coded sectors and charge by the day. The other half is free public beach, busier and more relaxed. Bring a beach umbrella in July and August; the sun is fierce and natural shade is non-existent.
