Capo Mele Lighthouse

Lighthouse at the southern cape of the Baia del Sole

Capo Mele is the rocky promontory that closes the southern end of the bay below Laigueglia, and the lighthouse at its tip — a slim, white-and-red striped tower from 1923 — is one of the most photographed features of this stretch of the Riviera. The walk out from the eastern end of the Laigueglia seafront takes about half an hour along the coastal path, with the sea on one side and Aleppo pines and prickly pears scrambling up the slope above.

The lighthouse itself is not open to visitors, but the headland is a fine viewpoint and a good early-morning or late-afternoon walk. Sunset from the cape, with the curve of the bay lit up behind you and the lighthouse turning into the dusk, is the standard end to a good day in Laigueglia.
