Colla Micheri is a tiny stone hamlet perched on the saddle of a ridge directly above Laigueglia, an hour's walk up the old mule path that begins at the back of the village. The settlement is essentially a single curve of medieval houses around a small chapel — most of it carefully restored by the explorer Thor Heyerdahl from the late 1950s onwards, after he found it abandoned and falling down.
The view from Colla Micheri is the reward: the long curve of the Baia del Sole stretched out below, Alassio at one end, Capo Mele at the other, and the open Mediterranean beyond. There is a single trattoria at the top, La Casa di Thor, run by descendants of the local family that worked with Heyerdahl; book ahead for lunch. The walk down is faster than the walk up — allow half a day total and bring water.
