The most famous footpath in the Cinque Terre links all five villages along the cliff face above the sea. The section from Monterosso to Vernazza — about 3.5km — is the most dramatic of the trail, crossing steep terraced vineyards and offering vertiginous views of the coast. Allow 90 minutes in good condition.
Check trail status before you go: sections are often closed for rockfall repairs or maintenance, especially after winter storms. The Cinque Terre National Park charges an entry fee (included in the Cinque Terre Card) to hike the coastal path. The trail can be crowded in summer; starting before 9am makes a significant difference.
