The Aurora Tower is the medieval watchtower that marks the boundary between Monterosso's old town and the newer Fegina district. Built in the 12th century as part of the village's coastal defence system, the tower stands on a rocky promontory jutting into the sea, with a tunnel carved through the headland connecting the two halves of the town.
The view from beside the tower — back toward the old town on one side, the beach of Fegina on the other — is one of the classic Monterosso angles. The tunnel beneath it is free to pass through and saves a significant climb over the headland. Most visitors use it several times a day without really registering it as a historic monument.
