Baia delle Favole

The Baia delle Favole (Bay of Fairy Tales) is the larger of Sestri Levante's two bays, facing south along the main promenade. It is longer and livelier than the Baia del Silenzio, with a sandy beach, sunbed rentals, beach bars, and the daily spectacle of Italian families at leisure. The long waterfront promenade is where everyone strolls at aperitivo hour.

The bay takes its name from Hans Christian Andersen, who visited Sestri Levante in the 1830s and was so enchanted by the town that he gave this bay its fairy-tale name. In late May or early June, the town holds its annual Andersen Festival here, mixing street theatre, oral storytelling, and music performances along the waterfront.
