Church of San Vincenzo

The parish church of San Vincenzo is the main church of Stellanello, rebuilt in baroque style and given altars of polychrome marble that are the most striking feature of the interior. The facades are plain, as is typical of Ligurian village churches, but the interior rewards a look inside when it is open — usually on feast days and Sunday mornings.

The church stands at the highest point of the village, near a small piazza that looks out across the terraced olive groves toward the coast. The views from here are the best in the village.

A story
The Del Carretto family, who held Stellanello as a fief in the twelfth century, were one of the most powerful noble clans in Liguria. Their patronage of local churches left a trail of fine stonework across the western Riviera, of which San Vincenzo is a modest but genuine example.
