Stellanello

Small Ligurian hill village above the Riviera delle Palme, with olive groves, old churches, and coastal views.

Stellanello is a small hill village above the Riviera delle Palme, perched in the mountains between Capo Mele and Capo Cervo. It is a quiet, largely agricultural place where olives are pressed into oil and peaches are grown in the valley patches. In the twelfth century it was a fief of the Del Carretto family, later passing to the Doria; it had its own statutes as early as 1305.

The baroque parish church of San Vincenzo has altars of polychrome marble. The older church of San Gregorio, from the fifteenth century, also has a fine baroque altar. Neither is likely to be open except on feast days.

The village is small enough to be walked in minutes, and the views across to the coast make the detour worthwhile if you are already in the Andora area.

Guide

Getting There

Stellanello is most easily reached by car from the coast road. Andora is the nearest town on the Via Aurelia; from there a narrow road climbs through olive groves to the village. There is no regular bus service. The drive up from Andora takes about ten minutes.

Parking is limited in the village; leave the car at the edge and walk in.
