Santuario di Santa Lucia

Above the Grotte di Toirano, on a rocky terrace cut into the cliff face, the small Santuario di Santa Lucia has been a pilgrimage site since the Middle Ages. A spring near the church is supposed to restore sight — Santa Lucia is the patron saint of vision — and devotional plaques line the path up.

The walk from the cave car park takes about 20 minutes and is steep but well worth it for the views over the Val Varatella and back toward the sea. The church is usually open mornings; the most atmospheric time to visit is the feast day on 13 December, when locals climb up with lanterns at dusk.
