Torre dell'Orologio

Mantua’s Renaissance clock tower overlooking Piazza delle Erbe

Torre dell'Orologio rises over Piazza delle Erbe with one of Mantua's most recognizable clock faces. The astronomical clock, added in the 15th century, gives the square a bit of Renaissance theatre: time, zodiac signs, and civic pride all compressed into a small facade.

Climbing or visiting the tower is a good way to slow down in Mantua's historic centre. It pairs naturally with the Rotonda di San Lorenzo, Palazzo della Ragione, and the cafes around the square, where the tower is part of the everyday view.
