Orto Botanico Pierina Scaramella

A small university botanical garden inside historic walls.

Address Via Bramante 28, Urbino

The University of Urbino's botanical garden was established in 1809 in the cloister of a suppressed Carmelite convent. Just 2,200 square metres but densely planted, with formal beds of medicinal herbs at the centre and shaded paths around the perimeter. A 19th-century glasshouse holds tropical species.

It is small and quiet — a good escape from the steep cobbled streets, with benches under old trees. Admission is free or by donation. Closed weekends and university holidays. Easy to combine with the Palazzo del Collegio Raffaello and the Casa di Raffaello.
