The Sanctuary of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae stands on Punta Meliso, high above the harbour, on a site tied to older pagan worship and later Christian pilgrimage. Its plain, fortified look is part of the appeal; churches on this coast had to think about raids as well as worship.
The walk up from the harbour is steep but memorable, climbing the monumental staircase that frames the end of the Apulian Aqueduct. The square at the top gives the best first view over Leuca and the two seas of local legend.
