Cala delle Arene

Cala delle Arene is the main beach on San Domino and the most accessible stretch of sand in the archipelago. A crescent of golden sand backed by Aleppo pine forest, it faces south and catches sun all day. The water is transparently clear in the Adriatic way — pale turquoise over sand shading to deep blue — and warm enough for swimming from June through September. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for hire through the summer season.

The beach gets crowded in July and August, particularly when day-trip ferries arrive from Termoli and Vasto in the morning. If you are staying overnight on the island — which is strongly recommended — you will have the beach largely to yourself in the early morning and evening hours, when the light on the water is at its best. The walk along the pine-shaded path from the main village takes about ten minutes.
