Torre di San Pancrazio

The Torre di San Pancrazio is the twin of the Torre dell'Elefante — also built by Giovanni Capula in 1305, two years earlier than its companion, also with an open north face that reveals the interior timber structure. The two towers together formed the defensive corners of the medieval citadel wall. San Pancrazio stands at the northern end of Castello near the Archaeological Museum, while the Torre dell'Elefante guards the western approach.

Like the Elefante, San Pancrazio can be climbed for panoramic views, and the two towers are usually visited together on a walk through Castello. If you're choosing between them, San Pancrazio offers slightly better views toward the north and west of the modern city. The entrance is on the small piazza of the same name at the top of the citadel.
