Palazzo Moncada is the grandest secular building in Caltanissetta, though it was never finished as planned. It was begun in the 17th century for the powerful Moncada family, then left incomplete when its owner moved to Spain as Viceroy of Valencia.
Look up at the carved balcony supports, where grotesque faces and animals give the stonework more bite than the restrained facade first suggests. The restored palace now holds cultural spaces, including galleries connected with local sculptor Michele Tripisciano.
