Sabucina Excavations

Hilltop archaeological site with Bronze Age, Greek, and Roman layers east of the city.

Sabucina is one of the main archaeological sites around Caltanissetta, on a hill east of town. Excavations have uncovered traces from the Bronze Age through the Greek and Roman periods, including settlement remains and a necropolis.

The site is most rewarding if you already have some interest in Sicily's inland archaeology. Visit the Archaeological Museum first, then come here for the landscape and the sense of why these ridges mattered.
