Petralia Sottana is one of the main practical centres in the high Madonie, close to the roads that climb toward Piano Battaglia and the central ridges. It is a good place to stop for supplies, lunch, or a walk through the older streets.
The town has a more lived-in feel than a postcard hill village, which can be a relief. Churches, stone houses, and mountain views are all here, but so are ordinary shops and cafés that make the place useful as well as pretty.
