Morgantina

Sicilian archaeological site with a preserved agora, theatre, and finds displayed in Aidone.

The archaeological site of Morgantina lies in east-central Sicily, about two kilometres from the modern town of Aidone in the province of Enna. The site covers a two-kilometre ridge called Serra Orlando and a neighbouring hill called Cittadella.

Morgantina was inhabited from around 1000 BCE to about 50 CE and has been the subject of archaeological excavation since the early 20th century. The remains include a well-preserved agora, a theatre, and residential quarters. Many of the finest finds, including the celebrated Venus of Morgantina, are now displayed in the museum at Aidone.
