Vogele is one of the most reliably good restaurants in the old town, housed in a 14th-century building on one of the arcaded lanes off Via dei Portici. The menu is solidly South Tyrolean: canederli in broth, Schlutzkrapfen, venison goulash, apple strudel. The wine list focuses on local producers — the Lagrein from the nearby vineyards south of the city is excellent.
The dining room has low vaulted ceilings and wooden furniture; the atmosphere is warm and unhurried. It's popular enough that booking ahead is advisable in summer. The lunch menu is simpler and slightly cheaper than the evening offering.
