San Quirico d'Orcia is Brunello and pici country. The local wine — Rosso di Montalcino and its bigger sibling Brunello di Montalcino — comes from vineyards just a few kilometres to the west. Pici, the thick hand-rolled pasta of southern Tuscany, appears on every menu in one form or another: with a wild boar ragù (al cinghiale), with a simple garlic and oil sauce (all'aglione), or with a rich meat sauce.
Trattoria al Vecchio Forno on Via Piazzola is the long-standing local favourite — honest, unfussy Sienese cooking with a good wine list at reasonable prices. For something lighter, the small bar on the main piazza does good coffee, local wines by the glass, and a few panini.
